Being a ROCK STAR MOM

Eager to Play

Loves It!

Working away

I once was a Y now I'm a turkey track- By Elijah!
Recently looking through pinterest I came across "how to be a Rock Star Mom." Of course I want to be a Rock Star Mom just like everyone else, right!? So I began reading through the list. It has lots of creative ideas such as lunch box notes, going on a nature walk, baking with one child, foam sword fighting. The list was a long one. Just before I stopped reading I found one reader suggested buying a notepad, construction paper and writing utensils and playing "I once was" with the children.

Since Elijah has made "homework" for me a couple nights in a row, I decided I should do this with him right now. Easily 45 minutes have gone by and he's still interested. I took a notebook and wrote the alphabet and handed it to him. I explained that the game was to take a letter and create a drawing with it. I started (from the pinner's suggestion) with "I once was an A now I'm a swing-set" and let him watch as I transformed the A into a swing-set! His face lit up. Levi wanted a turn so after he marked a little I said "I once was a B now I'm a butterfly and created the other wing and antennas. Yes, I was a ROCK STAR MOM!

Pampered Chef Brownie Pan

Pampered Chef Brownie Pan

LOVE LOVE LOVE this pan! I had been "eyeing" this pan from the first time I'd heard of it. It took me a while to take the plunge and purchase such an expensive (ha $19.95) item. And the day I got it and brought it home Elijah said, "you'll just look at it and put it in a yardsale!" He does know me well. Did I mention he is only 5!

The first thing I made using my pan was in fact brownies! We made the triple layer with chocolate chip cookies, reece cup center and brownie on top. It was not our favorite. In fact my husband and I both attempted to eat the brownie off top. Lucky for me brownies are not why I purchased the pan!

As soon as the brownies were out of the pan I mixed up some cornbread and popped the pan back in the oven! The pan not only comes out perfectly clean (best nonstick ever) but the cornbread is evenly brown, and tons of edges just the way momma likes it! :) After discussing with a coworker who asked if it was still "crunchy" I realized even though it is nonstick I should still oil the pan like before! So I did, and oooh it's so good!

Sunday I was thinking of all the make ahead breakfast and dinners I could do for the week. Of course the brownie pan was first out of the cabinet. I had made these http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/mini-frittatas-687877/ for breakfast once before and I used my muffin pan and what a mess! This time they are a little more square but each one slid right out! Ah yes! Makes momma happy! These little delights will last in the fridge a couple of days, if they aren't eaten before they get there!

So this is September

Our first month of Kindergarten has came and gone. Elijah has been doing very well the last couple of weeks. After crying the first week or so he discovered he really like when Daddy took him to school because Momma cried. So that was that, and Momma would get up with him get him dressed and pack his lunch and Daddy would take him to school. He really likes taking the "sneaking road" because one morning he got to see a deer.

Elijah began with learning shapes. He learned circles triangles and rectangles. He has also been working on sounds. He came home singing I like to eat eat eat eeples and beeneenees! Elijah has learned to be a good listener. He even brought home a short book called look at me now and was able to read (the pictures) to momma. Elijah has learned his first word. He asked me one night what F-O-X spelled! So sweet!

Kindergarten Fall 2012

Elijah made a friend. He started telling us about talking to his friend Charlie and playing with Charlie. When we started asking questions like "what's he like" we were corrected with "Well Charli is a girl." She sits at the front table with Elijah (table number 2) and has really helped Elijah not cry.

One day Momma and Daddy had an appointment with the speech therapist and heard an announcement overhead about the entire school only having one absence that day. When Elijah got home he was excited to tell us that he had popcorn at school. I asked when he got popcorn and he told us that the lady from the office came around to his room and had a bag of popcorn for everyone because there was a kid missing all day.

Then one day Daddy talked to Elijah's (teacher's) aid at work. He learned that one of the twins in Elijah's room tells everyone that he is her boyfriend. She also told Daddy that Elijah does really well in school and participates. We have been told that out of the 20 in Kindergarten Elijah is only one of 3 that did not attend preschool, but that he is ahead of most of his class!

Picture day came when Momma had to work. So she got out the closet organizer with the days of the week a few days before and was sure to pick out clothes for picture day as well as the rest of the week and leave them ready to grab. Momma was bragging about the organizer at work and suggesting to her coworker she really needed one with having hairbows, etc with her daughter. Then her next day off she discovered Wednesday PICTURE DAY still folded, untouched in the organizer. So Daddy sent Elijah to school for pictures in two shirts that did not match, and neither were meant for pictures! Pictures came and Elijah's smile settled the anger.
